Or “Will my site be found in Google?”
Tropical Web Works has experience in what’s called search engine optimization — optimizing Web sites for high visibility in search engines. We target the big three generally (Google, MSN, and Yahoo), but we construct and optimize our sites so that they are likely to be successful for their relevant keywords in all of the search engines. However, the first thing you should know is:
There are no guarantees for search engine rankings
When someone uses a search engine to search for a word or phrase on the Web, the major search engines, including Google, Bing, and Yahoo, use complex algorithms to determine the order in which they will display the many sites that match for that word or phrase. The search engines are constantly tweaking their algorithms and juggling the factors that they consider in deciding which sites are the “most relevant” or “best matches” for any given term.
The major search engines do not sell placement in the top positions in their search engines results pages (SERPs), and no reputable firm can promise you top placement in any of the major search engines. It is possible to buy placements as “sponsored listings” or “sponsored results,” which are generally set off visually from the regular search results. But the regular search results — also known as organic searches — are determined solely by the search engine’s indexing and algorithms, and no particular placement can be guaranteed.
Offering what the search engines like — and avoiding what they don’t
Tropical Web Works studies the evolving search engine practices to keep up with the latest information regarding what works — and what doesn’t — with the various search engines. We do not advise or recommend any of the “tricks” you may have heard about, such as cloaking, doorway pages, or “hidden text” on your page containing dozens of repetitions of your keywords.
Most such techniques are eventually discovered by the search engines, and when they are, the site in question may be dropped from the search engine’s index altogether.
Rather than employing “tricks” that might work for the short term, Tropical Web Works prefers to build Web sites that are likely to succeed over the long term. We employ good coding practices and ensure proper server configurations to ensure that there are no technological obstacles to full indexing of your site. There are many different ways to create any given Web page; Tropical Web Works always chooses the more search-engine friendly method over “search-engine hostile” methods.
We recommend including well-written, high-quality textual content on your site that is relevant to your preferred keywords. We can advise you on pursuing relevant “back links” to your site from other relevant sites, and on avoiding practices that could get your site banned.
We also recommend having a mobile-friendly site, focusing on the speed of page loads, and making effective use of social media, such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.
